30 Days and 30 Photos – Day 24

I have had the privilege of witnessing 3 full moons rise over the Atlantic off the coast of Mount Desert Island this summer.  They have all been spectacular and humbling.  The Harvest Moon tonight topped them all.  I made it down to the spot I chose on the cliffs just as the moon was starting to rise above the horizon.  It promised to be quite a show and it did not disappoint.  Scrambling to get my tripod set up and level, my first shot of the evening turned out to be the one I chose for my photo of the day.

  •  I used the Manual setting – ISO set at 100.  My camera settings are 2 sec. f/16 100mm
  • I used my tripod and the Live View window with set focus at infinity.  I also used the camera timer for release mode.
  • Exposure Compensation was set to -0.00.
  • In Lightroom, my major adjustment was to the Shadows setting so that I could bring out more detail in the foreground.  I also made very slight adjustments to temperature, highlights, and vibrance settings.

As the moon rose in the sky, the reflection on the water increased.  My second favorite picture of the day captured this reflection nicely.

  1. Lynn,
The detail and quality of your photos improves with each submission. I love the moon reflection which touches the clouds and still has the shore rocks in silhouette clearly visible.
